It’s challenging to find the ultimate storage, especially when you have to bear the cost of moving LEGOs around. I found the most manageable affordable LEGO storage system.
It has become more apparent that we are a LEGO family and needed better LEGO storage.
Because my son likes to build LEGOs and display them, I also wanted to add more surface area to put the assembled pieces on.
There were a few things to consider when looking for the most affordable and manageable LEGO storage system.
First, the system had be able to hold all of our LEGO pieces in one place. Second, the system had to be easy to access so that you could easily find the pieces you need. Third, the system had to be affordable so that it doesn’t break the bank.
The most affordable and manageable LEGO storage system that met all of these criteria was the IKEA LENNART Drawer units.

After researching tons of options and price points, I ultimately went with these. They were the perfect fit for multiple reasons.
Practical drawer unit that you can fit almost anywhere
Finding storage solutions that fit within your home is half the battle. And this drawer unit is small, which is perfect.
The height of the unit is a perfect height for my kids to place their finished pieces and to be able to reach the drawers when they are ready to play.
But the drawer could easily fit snugly into a closet underneath that space of clothes or areas that are not normally used.
If your kid has a desk area it’s small enough that it can go under a desk.
Transparent drawers
The drawers are transparent making it easy to see what is inside each drawer.
I wanted to make sure that whatever storage system I used that it was see thru or easy for my kids to be able to see the LEGOs because enclosed containers in the past were a mess.

The kids would get frustrated looking for certain pieces and they would make a mess doing so.
I also found it easier to keep out unwanted toys. With our old storage the kids would sometimes end up putting toys that didn’t belong in using is as a toy bin. I would find things during our cleaning and decluttering sessions.

Easy to move around
These drawers come with wheels on one side so even when the unit is full you can easily move them around making it easy to clean around them.
Open containers
I loved the fact that the containers are open all the time because they kids can just start playing without having to ask me to help them open tops and plastic containers. Now of couse this only works for your family if the kiddos are older and can handle having open containers without making a mess.
Shallow drawers
The unit has three drawers that pull out. Which make it easy for my kids to pullout and place on the floor. They are shallow so you can control how much is in each drawer.
The shallow drawers help the kids find what they want faster and without having to dump the drawer out. They also can travel with the drawers to different rooms inside the house so making playing with LEGOs more fun.

Easy to clean
I found in the past that when we had enclosed LEGO containers I would find extra things inside and dust would get stuck in the corners.
The mesh drawers can be easily wiped down with a dry or wet cloth.
Fits different size LEGOs
Our LEGO collection doesn’t just consist of the original small LEGOs we have the medium size and DUPLO LEGOs.
These drawers can hold every size which is ideal since we have so many sizes.

Easy to customize
Being that this drawer system is made of steel and has a base color of white. You can really get creative with them. Changing the color to match your room decor with a little spray paint.
You could add base plates to the tops of the drawer system to let the kids make builds right on top.
You can add drawer organizers for small pieces
I love my Target brightroom small tray organizers I use them all around my home. But they fit perfect inside these drawers for seperating small parts or whatever it is you want seperated.
Grows with your kids
As your kid’s interest changes, these drawers don’t have to stay at LEGO-only drawers. They can be turned into anything after the LEGO phase is gone.

Bonus ways to use the drawers
Currently, we don’t separate our LEGOs by color or anything like that. The kids aren’t quiet there and I want them to free play and not have to worry.
But having these drawer systems with shallow drawers means you can create sorting categories. By color and type if you have a huge lego collection.

We have multiple units together which makes a perfect surface. You can put a couple together and create the perfect LEGO table right on top with a piece of wood or other plank.
You can also stack two units. But would need to secure them with zipties together or maybe attached to the wall. But I would’t suggest stacking more than two.

Underneath each unit, there is a perfect space to hold LEGO manuals or add extra small storage.
You could create your own custom LEGO table with these.

Finally, don’t forget to label the storage containers. This will help everyone know where everything is supposed to go.
I am thinking about using these chalkboard onces from dollar tree.
Note that these drawers are not meant to bear weight they are extremely lightweight. You do have to put the system together but it was so simple. Now if you are wanting this same kinda of system that is sturdier and want to spend a little more on the quality I would suggest that maybe getting these from the Container store.
